The government has banned the use of drones in the upcoming elections.

Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ananda Kafle, informed that the Central Security Committee has already decided to ban the use of drones in the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives to be held in Falgun.

He also informed that the modern unit brought into operation by the Nepal Police will be made more effective to prevent the misuse of social media as it is currently on the rise. He said that the team is also working to monitor people who give false/misleading information and hateful statements in violation of the election code of conduct.

Stating that the security mechanism is keeping a close watch on those who are engaged in anti-election activities to bring them under the legal ambit, Spokesperson Kafle said that preparations are being made to identify polling stations with no communication connectivity and to make appropriate arrangements.

He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed all security mechanisms and administrative bodies to ensure that there is no lapse in the security of the election and to engage in tight management.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has given necessary instructions to review the work being carried out by the responsible bodies, manpower mobilization and arrangement plans as per the Integrated Election Security Plan-2082 and make effective arrangements, Spokesperson Kafle said.

The ministry has requested people to pay attention to the use of social media and not to post false, misleading and defamatory information, stating that action will be taken against those who engage in such activities.
