Nepali Communist Party leader and former Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has filed a complaint with the Election Commission and the Cyber Bureau of the Police, alleging that a fake election commitment letter was made in his name and misleading propaganda was spread through social media.
He has filed a complaint with the Commission and Bureau through his secretariat, demanding legal action against those involved in the act. Pun is a candidate for the House of Representatives from his home district of Rolpa.
The petition states that misleading and defamatory content is being disseminated, which constitutes an offense against public morality and etiquette and a violation of the election code of conduct as per Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act 063.
‘The environment for a free and fair election has been violated by misleading voters,’ the complaint states. ‘Since this has affected the integrity of the election and spread hatred in the society, I am submitting this petition to immediately remove the misleading materials and to identify the individuals and groups involved in such activities and take strict action according to the prevailing law.’
Pun claims that the candidates among the competitors have made a commitment letter about him and posted it on social media with the aim of spreading confusion among voters and character assassination, and has filed a complaint with the Election Commission and Cyber Bureau for action against the involved individuals.
