CPN-UML leader Jitendra Narayan Dev has quit the UML. He announced his resignation in a statement issued on Monday.
Instead of understanding the Gen-G movement of Bhadra 23 and 24 correctly, the UML has mentioned that it had to abandon the party, saying that it saw a ‘foreign conspiracy’.
‘The Gen-G rebellion of Bhadra 23 was an explosion of anger against the misrule, corruption, looting, unemployment and mass emigration of youth that have existed in the country for a long time,’ Dev wrote. ‘Instead of not understanding it in this way or not wanting to understand it, instead of correcting itself and moving towards correcting the party, I disagree with the ideology, policy and behavior that sees it as a foreign conspiracy, leads the party towards individualism and deification, and runs the party in an arbitrary and discriminatory manner. I hereby announce that I have abandoned the CPN (UML) from today’s date.’
He was in the Congress and had previously joined the UML on Asad 17, 2081. In the Congress, he was a member of the then Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik led by Vijay Kumar Gachhadar. He also joined the Congress when the party merged with the Congress.
His old background is leftist. He started politics from the UML in 2049 BS. He also recently became a member of the National Assembly from the Congress.
