Competition is getting interesting in Gulmi-1

What you should know

The competition in Gulmi-1 in the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21 is expected to be interesting.

The election in this constituency is set to be interesting as the two 'heavyweight' leaders, Pradeep Gyawali of UML and Chandra Bhandari of Congress, who have always won the elections in turn, are now facing a tough competition from the popular young candidate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sagar Dhakal and the NCP's Sudarshan Baral.

There are 10 parties and 11 independent candidates in the field in this constituency. However, the main competition is seen between the candidates of four parties. The main competition in this constituency is expected to be between Gyawali of UML, Bhandari of the Congress, Dhakal of the RSS and Baral of the NCP. The election, which used to be interesting between Bhandari of the Congress and Gyawali of UML, has become difficult to predict this time with the addition of Dhakal of the RSS and another candidate Baral.

According to the Election Commission, Nepali Congress candidate Bhandari won in this constituency by getting 33,744 votes in the 2079 House of Representatives election. Bhandari is facing his closest rival, UML's Baral. Gyawali was defeated by a margin of 1,592 votes. The defeated Gyawali had secured 32,152 votes. At that time, the then CPN-Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist Party supported the Congress.

In this region, under the proportional representation in the 2079 House of Representatives election, UML got 28,453 votes, Congress 23,413 votes, National Independent Party 8,116 votes, and the then CPN-Maoist Center, i.e. the current CPN-Maoist Center, 6,257 votes.

There are currently 122,186 voters in this region. It is not possible to say at this time who will win the election amid expectations of an interesting contest.
