Ramechhap's old voters are fed up, but there is great enthusiasm and trust in the new ones.

Although there has been a radical change in the lifestyle of leaders, the lives of ordinary citizens remain the same, according to 84-year-old Dambar Bahadur Karki.

The excitement of the upcoming House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21 has not touched Dambar Bahadur Karki of Sukajor, Ramechhap Municipality-7. Karki, who is over 84 years old, is a direct witness to the political changes since 2007. Despite having the experience of voting in repeated elections, this time he has neither enthusiasm nor hope.

'This election is not going to bring anything,' says Karki, 'it is just fun. Leaders come to ask for votes saying they will do this and that. After winning, the work is null and void. Their own sorrow is with themselves. No matter who comes, nothing is going to happen.'

He complains that despite participating in every election since 2007, the leaders who come to ask for votes have not put into practice the commitments they made. Karki says that although there has been a radical change in the lifestyle of the leaders, the lives of the common people remain the same.

Sachin Mahatara, a young man from Ramechhap Municipality-7, is very excited about this election. He is exercising his right to vote for the first time in the upcoming House of Representatives election on Falgun 21. Mahatara, who was abroad for employment during the previous elections, said that this time he has returned home with a good agenda and has returned to vote for the young candidate.

'There used to be elections before, but I never felt like voting, I was abroad for a long time,' he says, 'Now I will vote for the new and young people to win.' He emphasizes that this time, not the old parties and the candidates who have been repeated, but the new parties and young leaders should be elected and the country should be given an opportunity to develop. 'Change is possible in the country only if the youth get the leadership.' He said. Ramechhap's old voters are fed up, but there is great enthusiasm and trust in the new ones.

Taradevi Shrestha, 50, of Puranagaun, Manthali Municipality-9, does not have much faith in the new parties and young leaders that have emerged now. She says, 'Well, I think the new parties and young people who have come now are also the same. I hear news about them on the radio saying this and that. That's why I think they are all the same.' Even as the election approaches, Shrestha says she is not confident that the country will improve after this election. 'Everyone looks after their own interests before the country,' she says, 'so no matter who comes, there is a fear that the people's suffering will remain the same.'

In Ramechhap, which has only one House of Representatives constituency, 17 candidates, including three independents, are in the fray. The candidates are going to the voters with their respective election symbols. The enthusiasm for this election is seen more among young voters. Listening to the words of some representative voters, older voters have considered this election as a coming and going election like the last one, while the youth are enthusiastic about this election bringing a big change in the country.

According to Narayan Lamichhane, Election Officer of the District Election Office, a total of 187,952 voters are registered in this election across the district. 96 polling stations and 228 polling stations have been determined across the district.
