The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed serious objection to the false propaganda spread about the violent incident that took place on Bhadra 23, clarifying that he never gave the order to open fire on his own citizens.

In a statement released on Facebook on Wednesday, Oli said that the constitution does not give any prime minister the right to shoot at citizens, and said, "I have neither given nor can I think of giving such an order." Informing that the government immediately formed an investigation commission led by a former judge after the incident, Oli paid deep tribute to the 19 people who lost their lives and wrote, "That pain is with me to this day."

Oli said that the government initially decided to stop the demonstration in the Maitighar area due to the possibility of infiltration, but the administration readily granted permission after permission was sought for a peaceful assembly. Oli claims that the demonstration of Gen-G youths that began in Maitighar was peaceful and that no shots were fired or lathi-charge was carried out there.

However, around 12 noon, some infiltrators incited the protesting youth towards the restricted area and systematically tried to take them towards the parliament building, putting children and parents in school uniforms in front. He mentioned that the situation has turned into an ‘attack against the state’ rather than an ‘agitation’ after the attempted arson and the use of explosives in front of the parliament building.

Oli said that the security personnel were forced to use force as per the law after the direct attack on the security forces inside the parliament building. ‘If the security personnel had allowed the weapons to be taken away or if the parliament building had been burnt, the situation would have been even more horrific,’ he questioned.

He also said that the vandalism and arson at structures including Singha Durbar, Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Supreme Court after his resignation on Bhadra 24 had made the objectives of the anarchic groups clear.

UML Chairman Oli clarified that the security personnel will work according to the oath of the law, not on the orders of the government, and reiterated that no force was used in the peaceful protest at Maitighar and that no shots were fired until the restricted area in Baneshwor was breached.
