The number of candidates for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21 has reached 3,406 from across the country to date.
According to the Election Commission, 3,017 of the registered candidates are men and 388 are women. Among the candidates, 1,056 are in the age group of 25 to 40 years and 1,925 are in the age group of 41 to 60 years. Similarly, 425 are above the age of 61 years.
Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed at a weekly press conference held on Friday afternoon that 49 candidates from various constituencies have withdrawn their candidacies so far.
The election program, from the registration of candidacies to their withdrawal, was completed peacefully and enthusiastically, according to the Commission. The list of candidates under the proportional electoral system has also been published and the time for objections has been given until Magh 10.
Political parties submitted closed lists for the proportional system on Poush 13 and 14. The Commission has also informed that the final list will be published after the time for objections ends on Magh 10.
