Newly elected Congress President Gagan Thapa has vowed to change the country, saying that the Congress has come with a change.

Thapa made the resolution in the party's minute book after assuming office at the Congress central office in Sanepa on Friday. He wrote, 'Let's change the Congress, let's change the country. We are starting a new journey with this resolution. We have only one goal - the country's progress.'

The Congress central working committee meeting has decided to nominate Thapa as the prime ministerial candidate in the upcoming House of Representatives elections. After the meeting, Thapa told reporters that the Congress has changed according to the people's sentiments since the special general convention. He said that he will adopt a policy to change the direction of the country in the coming days. 

Thapa was elected as the Congress president from the special general convention held from December 27 to 30. He reached the party office on Friday for the first time after the Election Commission recognized the Thapa-led working committee.
