Young activist Sameer Oli has filed his candidacy as an independent candidate for the upcoming House of Representatives elections from Dang Constituency No. 2.

He has said that he has entered the election contest with the slogan, 'Politics is not my ambition, it is a responsibility towards society.' Oli, who started his journey of political awareness through the Bibeksheel campaign, has been active in social and civic movements in Dang for the past decade. He says that he has presented himself as an 'alternative' amid growing citizen dissatisfaction with the big parties and their candidates.

General Secretary Shankar Pokharel from UML, Kiran Kishor Ghimire from Nepali Congress, and Joint General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya from the Rastriya Swatantra Party have filed their candidacies from his constituency.

Oli claims that he has come forward because there is a lack of capable youth leadership in Dang-2 and the so-called alternative forces are also confused. 'You can do social work without politics, but I realized that I must enter politics to change the state,' he says.

He had also filed his candidacy for ward chairman in the previous local level by-election. He says that this experience has helped him connect directly with the people and understand local issues.
