The Election Commission has asked Surendra Bhandari of the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, who has filed his candidacy from Kathmandu-4 for the upcoming House of Representatives elections, for an explanation.

A complaint was filed against him for making hateful statements targeting the gender and sexual minority communities and spreading confusion in the society in violation of Section 4 (f) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082. The complaint also demanded immediate cancellation of his candidacy and taking maximum action.

'This letter was written as audio-visual material was also received showing that he spoke himself. In the mentioned context, did he make a statement that is contrary to the provisions of the Code of Conduct that everyone should follow, such as the section and section that prohibits election propaganda or conduct in a manner that hurts the feelings of senior citizens, women, sexual minority communities and people with disabilities or that kills their character? If he did, why should he not be taken action according to the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 and the prevailing election laws?' The letter sent by the Commission's legal officer Mohan Raj Joshi states.

The commission has asked to submit a clear response within 3 days of receiving the letter.
