Workers and voters are in confusion after two Nepali Congress candidates filed their nominations in East Nawalparasi Constituency No. 1.
Here, Congress district vice-president Balkrishna Ghimire and Mahasamiti member Gajendra Bahadur Ale registered their candidacies by bringing a letter signed by Congress president Gagan Thapa.
Ghimire's registration number is 15, while Ale's is 17. After both of them campaigned saying that they were the official candidates of the Congress, cadres and voters are confused.
Workers divided in favor of the two leaders have taken to social media to say that their close candidate is the official one. The confusion has increased as the center has not been able to confirm the candidates even after 18 hours of registering the nominations.
'This has become like a tree shop in Baramjhiya, it is difficult to distinguish which one is the real Congress,' said local voter Bishnu Poudel, 'Both are Congress. Now who is right and who is wrong!' He suggested that the Congress should take a decision soon on such a complex issue.
Nepali Congress has been winning all parliamentary elections since 2048 BS in East Nawalparasi Constituency No. 1, which is known as the Congress stronghold. Congress leader Dr. Shashank Koirala had won consecutively in the previous four elections here.
Chief Election Officer Kamal Gyawali informed that the two candidacies will be decided after the claim and opposition process.
On the other hand, the situation is similar in Constituency No. 2 of Nawalparasi West. There, Congress leaders Bhim Bahadur Thapa (Bharat) and Devendra Raj Kandel have both registered their candidacies from the Congress. Thapa is considered close to President Gagan Thapa, while Kandel is close to Sher Bahadur Deuba.
