He is going to contest the election for the second time in Lamjung, where there is only one constituency for members of the House of Representatives after federalism. Despite the claims of CPN-UML central member Jamindraman Ghale, the party secretariat meeting he attended has finally decided to field Prithvi Subba Gurung as a candidate in the House of Representatives elections scheduled to be held on Falgun 21.
Social media is abuzz with the party's decision to field Prithvi Subba Gurung as a candidate. There is an argument from one side that he should be elected as there is no other 'heavyweight' leader from Lamjung so far. Another side has put forward the argument that those who shut down social media should not be voted for and should be voted for new ones.
In the 2079 elections, although Ghale moved forward with elections for members of the House of Representatives and Gurung for members of the Provincial Assembly, the party gave tickets to Gurung for members of the House of Representatives and Ghale for members of the Provincial Assembly. Ghale was defeated when Takraj Gurung of the Nepali Congress, the then ruling coalition, won the election in Province (1). Prithvi Subba Gurung, the then ruling coalition candidate, defeated Dev Prasad Gurung, the then general secretary of the Maoist Center.

In the 2074 House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly member elections, Prithvi Subba was elected from Lamjung Province (B) and became the first Chief Minister of Gandaki Province. He demanded constitutional rights.
He won the 2079 election and was elected Minister of Communications and Information Technology on Asad 11, 2081. Less than 15 months after being in power, the UML-led government collapsed after the Genji movement on Bhadra 23. He was criticized for blocking social media and making harsh statements.
