The CPN-UML has given a chance to new faces in all three constituencies of Chitwan for the upcoming elections.

The list of direct candidates finalized by the UML central secretariat on Saturday includes Krishnaraj (Kamal) Pathak in Chitwan-1, Asmin Ghimire in Chitwan-2, and Shankar Thapaliya in Chitwan-3. These three are the first-time candidates.

Despite being first-time candidates, all three are familiar names in the district's politics. Kamal Pathak is the current district president of UML Chitwan. He is also a lawyer. He is also the former president of the Nepal Bar Association Chitwan district unit. Asmin Ghimire, a member of the party's Bagmati Province Committee, is well-known among the youth.

Shankar Thapaliya, who has been decided as the UML candidate in Chitwan-3, is the president of UML Bharatpur Metropolitan Committee and the president of Patihani Tourism Development Committee. Chitwan-1, which includes Rapti, Khairhani, and Ratnanagar municipalities in the eastern part of the district, was considered a strong area for UML. In the elections held since the Panchayat period, UML candidates had been winning from this region except once in the past 79 years.

But in the 2079 elections, when UML was defeated in Chitwan-1, Hari Dhakal of the National Independent Party (RASP) won. UML's presence was also improving by winning the elections in Chitwan-2, which was formed by encompassing the market areas of Kalika Municipality, Ichchakamana Rural Municipality, and Bharatpur Metropolitan City. But in the last election, UML was defeated badly here too.

In the 2079 House of Representatives member election and the subsequent by-election, Ravi Lamichhane, the central president of the Raspbian Party, won Chitwan-2 by a huge margin, and the UML candidate came third both times. UML has long been weak in Chitwan-3, which includes the western part of Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Madi Municipality. UML has not been able to win elections from this region so far.
