The dissolved Central Working Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress has decided to move forward for legal and constitutional redress against the Election Commission's decision.
The decision was taken at a meeting attended by former President Sher Bahadur Deuba's party leaders at the Congress party office in Sanepa.
Shekhar Koirala and his party leaders were also present at the meeting called by former Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka. 'Since the Election Commission's decision is against the party's statute and the constitution, it has been decided to seek legal redress,' former spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat said after the meeting, 'It has been decided to protest politically as well.'
Leaders including Ramesh Lekhak, Krishna Sitaula, Bal Krishna Khand, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki also participated in the meeting.
The Election Commission has already given legitimacy to the new working committee led by President Gagan Thapa, elected from the Congress special general convention, on Friday.
