Even though a new working committee led by Gagan Thapa was formed after the special general convention of the Nepali Congress, Deuba supporters are claiming that they are legitimate.
Senior advocate Radheshyam Adhikari, however, has said that the working committee elected from the special general convention is legitimate.
In an interview with Kantipur Television, he said that Gagan Thapa's team won a clear and unanimous victory. 'The term of election under the Congress constitution is four years. Those four years have been completed by mid-Mansir. Initially, the term of the person elected from the general convention has been completed for four years. Now, it is the period that they themselves have extended,' Adhikari said, 'That constitution has given an exemption. They have extended the term under the exemption. In the meantime, the Genji Movement took place. There was a commotion that it could not continue like this anymore. The special general convention was called because of that commotion.'
Along with the change in policy and leadership, the special general convention also mentioned the amendment of the constitution. According to Adhikari, the amendment side also had prior knowledge that that matter would be discussed.
'The leadership was compelled to call the central committee after reaching 40 percent. But since they did not call, the general secretaries should not disobey anymore. The general convention was called after the general convention was called to listen to the delegates,' the official said, 'Therefore, there was no question about the legitimacy of the general convention.
