Fifty-four people have applied to withdraw their names from the proportional closed list submitted by the party to the Election Commission for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21.
The number of applicants as of 3 pm on Monday was 54, said Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai. The commission has set the time for proportional candidates to withdraw their names from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday. He said that since there is about an hour left to submit applications, it may be extended.
Many of those who have applied to withdraw their candidacies are from the Janmat Party. 20 people from Janmat have applied. Then there are 12 from the Rastriya Swatantra Party and 3 from the UML. According to Election Commission sources, that number may increase further.
Thakur Prasad Sharma, who has applied for the Khas Arya ticket of UML, Anshu Singh for the Madhesi women ticket, and Vijay Singh Lama for the tribal people ticket have applied for the withdrawal of their names.
