Social activist Ashika Tamang has announced that she will be running as an independent candidate in the upcoming House of Representatives elections. She has decided to contest from Kathmandu constituency number 2 or 9 as a priority.

Making it clear that she will not be affiliated with any political party, Tamang has said that she will rise above party politics and move forward from an independent stream. She mentioned that she has reached this conclusion after serious discussions and introspection on entering politics for the past few weeks.

'For the past few weeks, I had conducted direct dialogue with stakeholders and conducted opinion surveys through social media on the issue of entering active politics,' she wrote on social media, 'I have decided to file an independent candidacy after discussing their expectations and issues, especially with the brothers and sisters of 'Gen-G' (new generation).'

Tamang has claimed that her candidacy is not for personal ambition but for the voice of the new generation, accountable politics and transparency. She has made valuing the feelings of the young generation, raising issues of public concern from the street to the parliament, and fighting corruption her main agenda.
