Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader Birodh Khatiwada has decided not to run for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 21.
The NCP Makawanpur had recommended Khatiwada's name for the House of Representatives election from both constituencies of Makawanpur. Former Health Minister Khatiwada expressed his gratitude for the recommendation of his name from both constituencies at the NCP's district party office in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-5 on Tuesday and said, "I will not contest the election, I will support other friends."
Quoting him, a district leader of the NCP said, "He has said that I will support whoever the party makes a candidate."
Khatiwada had been a candidate from Makawanpur six times as a member of the House of Representatives through the National Panchayat and had succeeded four times.
He had stood as a public party candidate from Male in 2043 BS and was defeated. He had won the House of Representatives elections in 2048 BS, 2051 BS, 2056 BS and 2074 BS.
After the UML split, Khatiwada, who had become the Health Minister from the then Unified Socialist Party, was defeated in the 2079 BS House of Representatives election as a candidate from the Unified Socialist Party. Khatiwada, who has been active in politics since his student days, is also known as a powerful orator.
