The UML has formally decided to go ahead with the upcoming elections. The UML, which has raised the issue of restoring parliament as a priority, has gone ahead of other parties and has already drafted a manifesto and formed an election mobilization committee.
The secretariat meeting held at the party's central office, Chyasal, on Tuesday formally decided to go for the election. The secretariat, under the coordination of party chairman KP Sharma Oli, has formed an election manifesto drafting committee comprising vice-chairmen Ram Bahadur Thapa, Bishnu Poudel, general secretary Shankar Pokharel, leaders Ishwar Pakheral, Pradeep Gyawali and member secretary Bishnu Rimal. Similarly, the election mobilization committee is coordinated by vice-chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa and members include Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Rajan Bhattarai, Hikmat Karki, Ramesh Badal, Min Bahadur Shahi and Bhishma Adhikari. Oli's instructions: Elections may not be held all over the country at once, be psychologically prepared. UML has appointed a provincial in-charge to conduct the election campaign. Sherdhan Rai has been appointed as the in-charge for Koshi Province, Leelanath Shrestha for Madhesh, Mahesh Basnet for Bagmati, Rajan Bhattarai for the capital, Khagaraj Adhikari for Gandaki, Padma Aryal for Lumbini, Yamalal Kandel for Karnali, and Ganesh Thagunna for the Far West. The meeting has given Secretary Bhanubhakta Dhakal the responsibility of in-charge of the Organization Department.
Similarly, the meeting has also decided to mobilize central members by focusing on geography in 77 districts. ‘The meeting has directed the office bearers and central members to remain focused on the elections,’ said Deputy Secretary General Lekhraj Bhatta. ‘Future responsibilities will be determined based on the role played in the elections.’
Secretary Rajan Bhattarai said that the government has failed to create an environment for the elections, citing the precarious state of peace and security. But he said that since the UML has moved forward according to the election program, it is preparing for the election.
