A list of candidates has been submitted by 64 political parties to participate in the electoral competition under the proportional electoral system under 58 election symbols.
The process of submitting closed lists to the Election Commission continued till Tuesday afternoon. According to the commission, the work of understanding the lists from all the political parties that came into the process of submitting closed lists was completed by Monday night.
The Congress had delayed in finalizing the closed list. As of late Monday night, 61 parties, including two or more parties contesting the elections together under a single symbol and even going into the elections alone, had come into the process of submitting closed lists.
They had entered the process by paying a deposit of Rs 50,000 as per the rules. The commission has worked through Monday night and Tuesday afternoon to understand the closed lists of all the political parties that came into the process.
