The Election Commission has set a limit on the expenses that candidates can incur for the direct elections to the House of Representatives to be held on February 21.

The commission has divided 165 constituencies into 5 categories and set a spending limit of Rs 2.5 million to a maximum of Rs 3.3 million. The commission, which has set a maximum limit of Rs 3.3 million, has set a spending limit of Rs 3.3 million in 26 constituencies from Taplejung to Baitadi 1. In Kathmandu, candidates from 5 constituencies will be allowed to spend Rs 2.5 million. Candidates from Kathmandu 1, 3, 6, 7 and 8 will be allowed to spend only Rs 2.5 million. A limit of Rs 2.7 million has been set in 17 constituencies. The constituencies that can spend Rs 2.7 million are Kathmandu 2, 4, 5, 9 and 10. Candidates from Parsa 1, 2, 3, Lalitpur 1, 2, 3, Bhaktapur 2 and Kaski 2 will be allowed to spend Rs 2.7 million. Candidates from 65 constituencies will be allowed to spend Rs 2.9 million.

Similarly, candidates from 52 constituencies will be allowed to spend Rs 3.1 million and candidates from 26 constituencies will be allowed to spend Rs 3.3 million.

The constituencies that will be allowed to spend Rs 3.1 million are Jhapa 5 and Dadeldhura 1. KP Sharma Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba have been candidates in these constituencies.

The constituencies that will be allowed to spend Rs 3.3 million are Taplejung, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Kavre 1 and 2, Makawanpur 1 and 2.

Candidates from Gorkha 1, Lamjung 1, Arghakhanchi 1, Rolpa 1, Pyuthan 1, Dang 1, Bardiya 1 and 2, and Salyan 1 will be allowed to spend Rs 3.3 million.

Candidates from Humla, Jajarkot, Bajhang, Doti, and Baitadi will also be allowed to spend Rs 3.3 million.

While submitting the closed list for the proportional representation for the elections to be held on Falgun 21, the commission has set a spending limit for direct candidates.
