The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has become the largest party in the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly. The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has become the largest party after the merger of the former CPN (Maoist), Unified Socialist Party and Civil Liberation Party.
The Nepali Congress was previously the largest party in the 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly with 18 MPs. The CPN-Maoist, which has 10 MPs, and the Unified Socialist Party, which has four MPs, had already merged to form the second largest party with 13 MPs (one suspended). After the Civil Liberation Front, which had seven MPs, was also merged into the CPN on Monday, the party now has 20 MPs.
There is currently a Congress-led government in the Far West in partnership with the UML. UML has 11 MPs. There is one RPP and one independent MP (currently Ujjaj Nepal Party) in the Provincial Assembly.
