The Nepali Congress has decided to renew active membership by exempting leaders and cadres who acted against the party's interests by not cooperating with party leaders in past elections.
The Central Performance Committee meeting held at the central office, Sanepa, under the chairmanship of Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka on Saturday decided to lift disciplinary action and renew active membership.
A statement issued by the party's central office's Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said, "Considering the current political situation and the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and the National Assembly, the party has taken this decision in order to ensure that the party is well-organized, maintain broad unity, and protect the constitution along with the sustainable development of the federal, inclusive, democratic republican system, and to take on board the national responsibility of protecting the constitution. This decision has been taken to warn against any disciplinary violations that may be against the party's interests in the coming days."
Similarly, the statement states that the Central Disciplinary Committee has decided to expel, suspend, and automatically pardon those who have run against the party's candidates or candidates supported by the party in the past elections, or who have acted against the party's candidates, their proposers, supporters, or non-cooperators, and to waive the remaining period of those who have been automatically prosecuted as per the party's statute.
The meeting has also called on those who have left the party for various reasons and become independent or have joined other parties and become candidates, proposers or campaigners to return to the party. The meeting has decided to provide active membership along with necessary responsibilities to those who return.
Similarly, people with democratic ideas and beliefs dedicated to the service of the nation and the people from various professions, businesses and various fields have been called on to play an active role in the Congress. Chief Secretary Poudel mentioned that in the current situation, the Congress has decided to move forward through special dialogue and cooperation in the intellectual and professional fields for the benefit of the party, democracy and the entire country.
The meeting has also prepared the criteria for selecting 110 candidates for the proportional representation in the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held in Falgun and has also taken forward the name selection process.
The meeting of the Central Working Committee will be held again at 11 am on Sunday at the party central office.
