UML General Convention: Voting time extended by 3 hours

The voting time for the 11th general convention of the UML in Kathmandu has been extended by 3 hours. The time to enter the polling station has been extended by 3 hours following the meeting of the Election Commission.

Earlier, the time to enter the polling station was fixed at 5 pm.

General Secretary candidate Shankar Pokharel said that the time to enter the polling hall has been fixed at 8 pm. He has also urged to secure the right to vote by taking a coupon.

An election technician of the UML Election Commission informed that 752 votes have been cast so far. Voting began at around 10 am on Wednesday.

According to UML Election Commission Vice-Chairman Sanuraj Pokharel, it took an average of 30 minutes for the delegates to vote, while some took up to 2 hours. 80 electronic voting machines have been set up for voting. 2,263 delegates from across the country are voting at the general convention. Although the UML has said that voting can be done until 10 pm, it is doubtful that voting will be completed on time if the voting continues at this pace.

General Convention According to the Central Election Commission, 603 candidates have filed for 301 posts of the Central Committee. In terms of office bearers, 2 have filed for the post of President (1), 11 for the post of Vice-President (5), 2 for the post of General Secretary (1), 7 for the post of Deputy General Secretary (3) and 20 for the post of Secretary (9).
