According to the Election Commission, 100 political parties have registered to participate in the upcoming proportional representation election system for the House of Representatives.
93 election symbols have been provided for them. Similarly, a total of 114 political parties have been registered in the direct election.
102 political parties have registered their parties by taking a single election symbol for the election purposes in accordance with the procedures prescribed by the Commission and the regulations on political parties. According to the Commission, the political parties that will participate only directly are the Nationalist Samata Party Nepal, Bikashsheel Janata Party, Rastriya Sajha Party, Parivartan Party, United Nepal Democratic Party, Nepal Naulo Janabadi Party, and Rastriya Samunnati Party.
Similarly, the Nationalist Center Nepal, Rashtravad Yuva Morcha, Lok Dal, Nationalist Ekta Party, Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Deshbak Loktantrik Party, Nepal, and Sarvodaya Party. Although these political parties will participate in the direct election system, they will not participate in the proportional election system.
According to Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, Assistant Election Officer for Proportional Election and Joint Secretary of the Commission, some parties have not registered a separate party because they will participate in the proportional election under the election symbol of another party.
Nepal's constitution has adopted a mixed electoral system. In the total 275-member House of Representatives, 165 members are elected through the direct election system. Similarly, 110 members are elected through the proportional election system.
The Election Commission has set the election date for the upcoming Falgun 21. In that election too, voters will vote through two ballot papers. It is generally believed that political parties participating in elections participate in a mixed electoral system. According to the provisions of the constitution, political parties participate in the direct and proportional election systems and select candidates accordingly.
