UML Secretary Gokarna Bista has said that the party has shown a tendency to come together to come to power. At an interaction program organized on Wednesday on the occasion of the UML 11th General Convention, Secretary Bista said that the UML has formed the government even with forces that do not share even the minimum ideas, programs, and principles.

He said that the UML has acted contrary to the slogan of the 10th General Convention, "Let us defeat right-wing opportunism and organizational anarchy, and prepare the basis for socialism under the guidance of the Supreme Leader." Bista said that in the 2079 elections, they embraced opportunism by forming an alliance with the RPP, which carries a constitutional monarchy, for the elections. He said that the government was formed by the RPP, Congress, Maoists, Madheshists, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), without taking into account the minimum basis of consensus, program, and ideological proximity. He said that the communist movement has shown a tendency to agree with anyone to join the government. Bista's statement

The main slogan of the 10th General Convention was - Let us defeat right-wing opportunism and organizational anarchy, and prepare the basis for socialism under the guidance of the Supreme Leader. But in the meantime, looking at the 2079 elections, we showed opportunism in forming an alliance for election purposes even with the party mentioned in the official manifesto of the RPP—which considers the constitutional monarchy as a value and norm.

When forming a government, should we form a government based on a minimum consensus, a minimum program? Should we form a government based on ideological proximity? Or should we form a government based on a basic consensus that addresses the main issues that have emerged in national politics?—We could not pay clear attention to any of those aspects.

Sometimes with the RPP, sometimes with the Congress, sometimes with the Maoists, sometimes with the Madhesist parties, and sometimes with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh—that is, tendencies to agree with anyone for the purpose of joining the government appeared in our movement. This is a crude example of right-wing opportunism. We should seriously review this.
