Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has accused the government of failing to create an environment for the elections to be held on the scheduled date despite some difficulties.
At a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union Sarlahi on Saturday morning in Malangwa, the district headquarters, Thapa said that the government had failed to ensure the election environment. Stating that the Nepali Congress is committed to the House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21, Mahamantti Thapa accused the government of not being committed to dispelling doubts and holding the election even though the parties are ready for the election.
Thapa argued that the prisoners who escaped after the Gen-G movement and the weapons that were looted could pose a challenge for the election. He said that the Holi atmosphere in Madhesh and the adverse weather in the hills and mountains could also pose a problem on the scheduled date. Stating that he had informed Prime Minister Sushila Karki about this at an all-party meeting, he said, ''There is some difficulty in holding the election on the scheduled date. The government should bring the escaped prisoners and weapons under control, otherwise doubts will remain in the election.''
General Secretary Thapa has also announced that he will be a candidate for the post of president in the upcoming 15th general convention of the party. He also said that Congress workers are eager to elect a new leadership in this year's party elections.
