Writ filed in Supreme Court against appointment of Chief Minister in Madhesh

A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the appointment of the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province.

On Monday, Rakki Prasad Sah filed a writ petition naming the Office of the Chief Minister and the Office of the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers as respondents.

The Supreme Court has set a date for Tuesday for the discussion on the writ petition. Petitioner Sah informed that the writ petition was filed because the Constitution was violated despite the fact that Article 168 (2) of the Constitution is still alive. According to him, the writ petition has argued that a call for the formation of a new government should be made based on the living article. An order to maintain the status quo until the final decision of this petition has also been sought.

Jitendra Prasad Sonar (Sonal) resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Madhesh Province on Saturday. At 4 am on Monday, the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Sumitra Bhandari, was appointed as per Article 168 (3) of the Constitution and administered the oath of office and secrecy. Parties other than the CPN-UML, RPP and Nepal Federal Socialist Party have expressed objections to the same issue. Seven parties are preparing to go to the Supreme Court against the appointment. Signatures of 74 MPs were collected.
