With less than a week left to register political parties for the House of Representatives elections, 19 new parties have so far applied. They include not only those with political backgrounds, but also the Gen-G group, businessmen, former parliamentarians, and former ambassadors.

Birendra Bahadur Basnet, the owner of Buddha Air with a business background, has applied for registration of a dynamic democratic party with Professor Dinesh Prasai as its president. Similarly, former ambassador Nawaraj Subedi has applied for registration of the Janayug Party. Subedi, who was a member of the Janamorcha party from the Maoists to the Naya Shakti party, was appointed ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Outgoing MP Yogendra Mandal is also among those registering a new party. He won the 2079 election as an independent candidate from Morang-5 after not getting a ticket from the UML and has applied for registration of the National Urjashil Party.

An application has also been filed for registration of the National Parivartan Party led by Ajay Kumar Rai from the Gen-G group. Some of the central members of which are from the families of the injured in the movement, while the rest are trying to register the party together with all the Gen-G age group members. Similarly, an application has also been filed in the name of the National Gen-G Party led by Hira Prasad Seti.

Netra Bikram Chand, who has been boycotting the elections in the past, has also applied for registration of the Communist Party Nepal. In the past, Gyanendra Bahadur Tamang, who was close to the Maoists, has registered the Ujjaya Nepal Party. Tamang, a teacher by profession, was active in social work after retirement.

Khagendra Sunar, who withdrew his name at the last minute after being recommended for the ministerial post, has registered his party Nepal. Chandra Prakash Subedi, an activist for the construction of a beautiful Nepal, has applied for registration of the Sundar Nepal Nirman Party to transform his own campaign into a party. Similarly, Himal Bahadur Chand has applied for registration of the National Youth Party Nepal, Sabin Sigdel's Rashtra Nirman Party, Ratna Prasad Shrestha's Citizen Supremeness and Riyaz Ahmed Shesh's Rashtriya Swaraj Party.

Dr. Sundarram Bohara's Nagarik Awaz Party, Ganesh Kumar Mandal's Sarvabhoom Nagarik Party, Madhav Prasad Khatiwada's Nagarik Bachau Dal, and Rajkumar Kakshapati's Nepal Communist Party Left Center have submitted applications.

125 political parties have been registered with the commission. After the Gen-G movement of last Bhadra, 15 parties have applied to the commission for registration. Out of them, the Shram Sanskriti Party led by Dharan Sub-metropolitan Mayor Harkaraj Rai has already received a party registration certificate.

The commission has already published a schedule for parties wishing to participate in the House of Representatives elections to be held on 21 Falgun. According to the election schedule published by the commission, parties will have to register for the House of Representatives elections from 1 to 10 Mangsir. For that, the party registration certificate must be obtained by 30 Kartik, said commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
