CPN (UML) Vice Chairman and former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has said that the UML will not run away from the elections even though it emphasizes the restoration of the parliament. However, he said that the government should prepare for the elections, make security arrangements, and create an environment of trust between the parties.
Poudel, who came to his constituency for the first time after the 'Gen-G' protest, said at a press conference organized by Press Chautari on Wednesday that the UML's request is to prepare the environment for the election.
'UML will not run away from the election under any circumstances and is not a party that will run away,' he said, 'However, a reliable and trusting environment must be created for that.'
He said that the UML has emphasized the restoration of the parliament as the government has not prepared for the election. Leader Poudel said that the current solution will be through the restoration of the parliament and then we should move forward according to the constitution.'
'It is not that the UML should lead it. He clarified that the current government is outside the constitution and cannot hold the election. By restoration, the UML does not mean boycotting the election,' he added, 'This government itself does not want the election. There is no preparation yet for the election said to be held in Falgun. Our party will start preparing for the election as soon as the election is confirmed.'
He said that the election cannot be held by taking revenge on political parties. According to leader Poudel, it is necessary to make the people understand about the attacks on UML, the damage to national property and the manipulation of other forces during the movement. He also said that the message of that campaign should be given from Lumbini.
He recalled that the huge demonstration by UML in Lumbini, especially in Butwal, when people were not on the streets across the country during the king's coup, was historic. 'Even when people were stopped from coming to the program from all sides, there was that level of participation,' he said, 'we should continue like that now too.'
Leader Poudel said that the 11th general convention of UML will be a convention of consensus and unity. He claimed that the convention to be held from November 27 will be a miraculous convention of consensus and unity.
'There will be no elections for office bearers, it will be unanimous,' he said, 'We are trying and preparing to hold elections only for members. Even if there is an election, it will be a healthy and constructive competition.'
