What you should know
70,000 new voters have been added to the list of voters till the day before the Tihar holiday. After the amendment of the law through an ordinance and additional time given to those who missed out, the process of registering their names in the voter list is ongoing. The government and the Election Commission have urged people to register their names in the voter list as soon as possible.
The Election Commission had published a notice on 9 Asoj and said that the collection of voter lists had begun. Since then, 70,415 people have been added to the voter list as of 2 Kartik. Of these, 43,165 men, 27,244 women and 6 others have registered their names, said Suman Ghimire, the commission's information officer. He mentioned that there was not as much enthusiastic participation in the collection of voter lists as expected.
The government has amended the Voter List Act and made arrangements for the collection of voter lists even after the election announcement. The election to the House of Representatives has been announced on 21 Falgun. The government has amended the legal provision that does not allow the collection of voter lists from the date of the election announcement, which has paved the way for the collection of voter lists. Accordingly, the commission has given time until 30 Kartik to register names in the voter list. Prime Minister Sushila Karki has called for registration in the voter list to ensure one's right to vote. Through social media 'X', she has urged everyone to ensure one's right to vote, saying that the government is moving ahead with preparations with the goal of holding the election.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has urged people not to be deprived of their right to vote. ‘A special provision has been made by amending the law for those who are missing from the voter list. Do not miss this opportunity,’ he said, ‘You have until 30 Kartik to register your name, correct it or move the list from one place to another.’
After the Gen-G movement on 23 and 24 Bhadra, the House of Representatives was dissolved on 27 Bhadra, and a new election was announced. He said that a special provision was made by amending the law after assessing that a large number of youth names were not in the voter list when the new election was being announced. As voter list registration work is being carried out in election offices across the country, Bhandari urged people to reach the office of their choice and complete the voter list registration process.
The concerned person must have citizenship to register their name in the voter list. Citizens who have reached the age of 18 can register their name in the voter list. The Commission has provided the facility to apply through the online process. After filling in your personal details through the commission's website or the link on the citizen app, you should go to the election office and take a photo and get your biometrics done.
Chief Commissioner Bhandari said that the facility has been given to register your name in the voter list from anywhere in the country. He said that the commission has given special importance and priority to the compilation of the voter list. After filling in your personal details online, you can go to the election office of the district where you reside, take a photo and get your biometrics done. Bhandari said that there is no obligation to reach your home district for this.
The commission will send it to the relevant local levels to take objections to the names collected by the scheduled date. Only after the objection process is completed, the names currently being compiled will be included in the final voter list. The first and most important task for the election is the preparation of the voter list. The commission, which is busy preparing for the election, is working to correct it. The commission has set a schedule for publishing the final voter list by making the list pure and authentic.
According to the commission, the number of people registered in the voter list as of mid-June is 181,68,230. Of these, 89,16,522 are female voters, 92,51,541 are male voters, and 187 are other voters. The final voter list and number will be determined after the names currently being registered are added. During the 2079 elections, there were 179,88,577 voters.
People registered in the voter list can also correct any errors in their list until 30 Kartik. The commission's information officer, Ghimire, said that the work of correcting errors or moving the list from one place to another can also be done during this period. He informed that the concerned person must submit a migration certificate to move the list.
