Chairman CK Raut has approached the Supreme Court demanding that the party's registration be stopped as the preparations by another faction to split the Janamat Party are illegal. Raut filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

The first hearing of the writ petition filed on Thursday is scheduled for Friday. Raut has demanded an interim order not to proceed with the application filed by him to register a separate party in the writ petition. Raut has also made the Election Commission a defendant. It has been demanded that an interim order be issued in the first hearing as there is no legal basis for the party division in the writ petition and the Commission can register it.

The Raut-led Janmat Party split and one party filed an application for registration of a new party on Sunday. About 20 percent of the central executive members, led by Vice President Deepak Sah, had filed an application for registration of a new party with the Election Commission. They reached the Election Commission on Sunday and filed an application to register a party named Janaswaraj, but the identity is yet to be confirmed.

Vice President Abdul Khan had already left the Janmat Party. The Janmat Party has 52 central executive members. Janmat won 6 seats in the 2079 House of Representatives elections. Janmat, which has become a national party, is also leading the Madhesh Province government.
