As the election date of the House of Representatives has been announced, the Election Commission has called for party registration as soon as possible. There is no legal problem for the registration of a new political party, but the commission has requested that preparations be made quickly as there is a time constraint.

The Commission will issue a notification for which of the registered parties will participate in the House of Representatives elections on February 21. Only the parties listed in the Commission will be allowed to re-register for the House of Representatives elections according to the notification. According to the Commission, parties can be registered by fulfilling the necessary criteria set by the Act on Political Parties.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said that political groups who want to register new parties can now apply. "According to the constitution, party registration notices should be issued for the House of Representatives elections. When the notification is issued, only the party which is already registered can get the party registered for the election," he said. Currently, 122 parties are registered in the commission.

In clause (j) of section 2 of the Election Commission Act, 2073, the period from 120 days before the date of the election until the final result of the election is announced is called the election period. Accordingly, the election period will start from the next 20 October. The commission will initiate the election programs. As soon as the election program begins, the Commission has a practice of calling for party registration. For the House of Representatives elections held on 4 November 2079, the commission called for party registration on 20 July. The notice was issued 15 days before the polling.

According to paragraph 2 of the Political Party Act, 2073, a model of party constitution, manifesto, flag and emblem should be prepared for party registration. At least 500 Nepalese voters need to sign a commitment letter and a certified copy of their citizenship or voter ID card to get party membership. People who have made such a commitment must also have declared that they are not members of another party. A central committee of at least 21 members will be formed and an application will be made.

The Genji movement on 23 and 24 August has brought political changes in the country. Parliament has been dissolved and new elections have been announced. There is a possibility of participating in the upcoming elections by forming a new party from the participants in the Genji movement. By targeting Genji, the government has removed the legal obstacles in the collection of voter lists through an ordinance.

After the date of the election was announced, the Voter's List Act prohibited the compilation of the voter's list in order to vote in the relevant election. Because of this, the work of collecting the voter list was stopped from 27 August. It opened the way for the collection of the list considering the possibility of Genji youth being deprived of voting. The commission has prepared to collect new voters till the end of October.
