If there is no regular convention to change the leadership in Congress, special convention: Mahamantri Thapa

Congress General Minister Gagan Thapa has said that for fundamental reforms within the party, the leadership should be selected through a regular or special convention. He believes that to address the demands raised by the Gen-G movement, a change of leadership in the party is inevitable.

Maha Mantri Thapa, through a video message on Saturday, indicated that they would immediately intervene within the party to preserve the relevance of the party and address the aspirations of the youth for change. "There has been so much upheaval, can we sustain the party as it is, it is not possible," he said.

Thapa even criticized himself that even though he and another chief minister raised the right issues, they were not able to finish them. "We always picked up the right thing, but we left it in the middle . This is our weakness . This time we will not leave.

He warned that if the party is not reorganized, the sentiments expressed in the movement and the expectations of the youth cannot be addressed. Thapa emphasized on the need for an immediate session for radical changes in the party's leadership and policy. He said that there are two options for that, regular and special session.

Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba along with all office bearers and the central working committee will end their four-year tenure from next November . Thapa said, "First, renew the old active membership through the new convention, open new membership for two months, suspend the articles of the constitution and directly elect the chairman." He believes that new and inclusive leadership can be brought to the party in this way. As a second option  A special convention will be held from the old (voters of the 14th convention) convention representatives to elect a new leadership and reform the party's policies, rules and weaknesses.

Thapa said that since there was a special convention in 2014, it can be done this time too. He gave the example of the special convention held in Biratnagar in 2014 and highlighted the possibility of party reorganization. The committee of Suvarna Shamsher elected in 2012 decided to hold a special convention. Suvarnaji resigned and paved the way and in 2014 BP Koirala became the chairman. The same leadership made the Nepali Congress a party with a two-thirds majority. Today, such an opportunity has come again," said Thapa in a video message.

He said that the special convention will provide not only new leadership, but also an opportunity to improve the policies and weaknesses of the party. This is not only a matter of leadership selection, it is also an opportunity to improve the policies, rules and weaknesses of the party. We should not miss this opportunity' said Thapa.

Thapa said that he would proceed according to the advice of the chairman regarding the comment of the establishment party leaders that it was insensitive to raise the issue of a special convention during the health treatment of Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba. "We try to persuade and deceive, but if no one is ready to accept, then we should not raise our hands, we should move forward," Thapa said, giving an intervention message to the party, "This step is inevitable for the welfare of the party and the country." We are not insensitive, but it is necessary to take tough decisions for the future of the party and the country." I am ready to pay any price. I am ready to sit on the floor as an ordinary member. This is not my personal topic . Above me is the party, above the party is the country, and above the country is the dream of change seen by the youth," Thapa said. Young people are looking for change. We will be relevant only if we form a party to address it and only such a party can fulfill the responsibility of the country.

He said that the suppression of the Jinji movement by the state should be investigated. Thapa also demanded a fair investigation into the property, land, business and various scandals of all those in charge after 2046. I have been a minister, I have been an MP four times. Let my property also be investigated . Milk and water should be separated, he said. He said that if the corruption is not investigated, the achievements of the movement will remain incomplete and the sacrifice of the martyrs will be insulted. He said that the spirit of the movement will be respected only if there is a method to punish those who have committed mistakes.
