Maoist Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has pointed out the need for unity among all democratic, republican and change-loving forces in the country. Expressing his best wishes on the occasion of Constitution Day, he mentioned that the alternative to democracy is a more advanced democracy and said that it is the common duty of all Nepalis to protect the freedom of the nation through the protection of the constitution and democracy.
Dahal says that the country-wide reconstruction should be undertaken with the highest priority now, mentioning that the time has demanded further expansion and amendment in the continuation of the constitution since the recent Genji movement. The Maoists demand that the government form an independent, impartial and high-level inquiry commission into the incidents of August 23 and 24 and bring the culprits to justice.
'I believe that the Genji movement is not anti-democratic, but it is against the status quo and ad hoc governance system and is in favor of advanced democracy, despite that, the 23rd and 24th August movements cannot be viewed from the same angle. The movement of August 23 was the real Genji movement,' said Dahal.
