It was announced that he was elected unopposed in the committee meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of the senior member of the committee Pashupatishamsher Jabara. The newly elected Khatiwada is an MP of the Nepali Congress.
After Ishwaridevi Neupane, the previous chairperson of the committee, resigned, Khatiwada was the only candidate for the vacant chairperson post. In the meeting, the chief whip of the Congress parliamentary party, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, supported the proposal made by MP Khatiwada to be elected as the chairman.
Member of Parliament Khatiwada, who started politics from Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh, is currently a central member of the Congress. Earlier also he was a member of the House of Representatives from Okhaldhunga.
Until some time ago, he was the chairman of the State Order and Good Governance Committee. He resigned from the post of chairman after the cooling off period arrangement in the Civil Bill was falsified.
According to the constitutional arrangement, before assuming office of the Speaker, he will take the oath of office and confidentiality with the speaker next Monday.
