The Congress has not yet decided on who will be made the chairman of the State Order and Good Governance Committee.
Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba and Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka are in favor of repeating the outgoing chairman Khatiwada. But most of the leaders, including Chief Minister Gagan Thapa and Vishwaprakash Sharma, are suggesting that repeating Khatiwada will not send a good message and that they should go for an alternative.
The Jeevan Pariyar-led committee formed to investigate the cooling period blunder included in the Civil Bill held outgoing chairman Khatiwada and committee secretary Suraj Kumar Dura as the main moral responsibility. Soon after, Khatiwada resigned.
The name of MP Dilendra Badu, who is also a member of the State Order and Good Governance Committee, is being discussed as his alternative. Congress president Deuba has called a meeting of office bearers at his residence in Budhanilkanth to select the candidates before the nomination program at 1 pm today.
According to Shyam Ghimire, chief whip of the Congress Parliamentary Party, the name of the chairman will be decided from the said meeting. So far, only discussions have taken place, but none of the issues have been decided. He said that the name will be decided according to the agreement between the leaders.
