पौष शुक्ल पूर्णिमादेखि माघ शुक्ल पूर्णिमासम्मको एक महिने अवधिमा नेपालका विभिन्न शक्तिपीठको पूजा आराधना गरिन्छ । ती स्थानमा सतीदेवीको अङ्ग पतन भएपछि देवीदेवताको बास रहेको विश्वासका आधारमा यो परम्परा सुरु भएको हो । आजदेखि वैदिक सनातन धर्मावलम्बीले विधिपूर्वक माघ स्नान, स्वस्थानी व्रत एवं कथा वाचन सुरु गरेर पूजा आराधना सुरु गर्दै छन् ।
पौष शुक्ल पूर्णिमादेखि माघ शुक्ल पूर्णिमासम्म एक महिना स्वस्थानी व्रत र माघ स्नान गरिन्छ । पौष शुक्ल चतुर्दशीको दिन हात गोडाका नङ काटी स्नान गरी शुद्ध वस्त्र पहिरिएर यसको सुरुवात् हुन्छ । बिहान माघ स्नान गरी मध्यान्हकालमा महादेवको पूजा आराधना गरिन्छ । बेलुकी स्कन्द पुराणको केदार खण्ड अन्तर्गत माघ माहात्म्यको कुमार अगस्त्यबीच संवाद भएको स्वस्थानी व्रत कथा सुन्ने सुनाउने परम्परा छ ।
