International Yoga Day is being celebrated all over the world on April 15 (Baishakh 2) with the motto 'Himalayan Consciousness, World Health'. Health, that is, complete health, is essential for the balanced development of human civilization. For that, it is a pressing need of the present to keep people healthy in terms of physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and environmental aspects.

Reflecting on this issue, the United Nations has announced that April 15 will be celebrated as Health Day, as per the tireless efforts of Bhanu Sharma and Ramesh Nepal, gurus of the spiritual organization Life Science, and the initiative of the Government of Nepal. The proposal for Health Day submitted by Nepal was passed by the United Nations on March 10, 2026.

Promoting health tourism can be a transformative initiative for the overall development of Nepal. Health tourism can be made the main agenda of economic development. Nepal can be made a world health destination. For this, tourist visas need to be concessional and simple. Because Nepal has many opportunities and potential for tourism. By utilizing that, we can move forward on the path of prosperity. Since tourism is a large part of the health economy, Nepal can develop Nepal's tourism sector as a health industry. It is now desirable for the government and the private sector to move forward hand in hand in this.

Mountaineering, trekking, boating, observation of natural beauty, and experience of biodiversity can be combined with yoga and meditation. Life Sciences has said in one of its concept papers - if yoga and meditation can be included in the mountaineering or trekking package, a person can get rest and inner happiness along with labor, which helps him become healthy. For example, after returning from mountaineering or trekking, two days of simple yoga asanas can be completed and meditated. This provides sensory and mental happiness as well as inner happiness.

Nepal's food style and clean water can be presented for tourists' consumption, explaining the importance of economic progress. Tourists have their own preferences and choices in food, however, Nepal's native and traditional food can also be included in each menu. Which will help increase Nepal's production and benefit tourists with nutritious food.

Nepal can be made a world health tourism hub by promoting meditation and yoga in all tourism activities. Health tourism can be the mainstay of Nepal's economy in the coming days. The government's role in this is the most profound and important. Therefore, the government should put health tourism on the main agenda of economic development.

The newly formed Balendra Shah government has declared 2027 as the Year of Health and put it forward for implementation. This is a highly commendable act. Now it seems desirable for the government to actively mobilize health tourism diplomacy through its embassies.

Along with modern and Ayurvedic treatment methods, Nepal is also a country with ample opportunities for naturopathy. Many of the traditional treatment methods, naturopathy, yoga, meditation, spa, acupuncture and other treatment methods here have been developed through Nepal's own research and practice.

Nepal is a unique country for Vedic research and research. Nepal is the birthplace of yoga and meditation. The combination of Hinduism and Buddhism, harmony and harmony and love for each other can be important topics for researchers. Understanding the importance of yoga and meditation, the United Nations has already announced that June 21 of every year will be celebrated as International Yoga Day and December 21 as World Meditation Day. This is a matter of pride for Nepal. We have got the opportunity to spread the yoga propounded by our sages and the meditation originated from our land all over the world.

Every person has a longing for physical happiness, physical health and happiness. In the modern era, people are ready to pay any price for material happiness. But many people do not know much about sustainable and long-term happiness, they only consider momentary happiness as paramount. We cannot be happy just by being happy, that happiness should be sustainable and eternal. That is what tourists also seek.
