[Letter to the editor] Prime Minister, let's find a way out, not right and left anymore

When he was appointed, he changed the constitution, but now he does not want to go left or right from the constitution and move forward by adopting the old system, it is not going to be seen as different from the same old political party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal sitting in the prime minister's chair in turn.

Neither the protestors nor the then government led by KP Sharma Oli thought that the Gen-G movement of August 23 would reach that stage. The movement that succeeded in overthrowing the government in about 27 hours is probably a model event in world history.

The aim of the movement was not to overthrow the government, but the situation did not only overthrow the government, it also brought the nation to a state of governmentlessness for some time. Citizens everywhere felt unsafe. The physical structures carrying the heritage of the ancestors turned into ashes. The Gen-G generation demanded – only transparency and an end to corruption.

They led the movement to put pressure on the then government. As the mood of the movement worsened, a situation was created where Jen-Ji had to lead the government and run the country. However, since there was no movement based on the assessment of that situation and there was no specific leadership of the agitators, they could not have the capacity to do so much.  Due to his solidarity with the

movement, the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balen Shah, suddenly became an invisible judge in the changing situation. It is good that he did not appear anywhere. The Gen-J generation tried hard to hand over the executive powers of the country to him, but he did not come before him, instead putting forward former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. In this way, she succeeded in becoming the first female Chief Justice of Nepal, Karki also succeeded in becoming the first female Prime Minister in Nepali history.

Karki, who is leading the government on the strength of the Gen-G movement, has recently been accused by the same Gen-G. The Gen-G generation, which has not completely rejected the current constitution, has been moving forward with the demand that this constitution should be modified or amended as much as possible and go to the direct executive election system in the next election, and if it is not possible to do so, then by issuing an interim constitution, the direct executive election system should be adopted.

Similarly, their other demand is that Oli, the then leader of the government, and Ramesh Akhtar, the home minister, should be arrested and prosecuted immediately. One of their two main demands was to go to the direct executive election system, which was rejected by Prime Minister Karki in her first address to the nation after becoming the Prime Minister. Since then, the Gen-G generation, which has been separated from him, is also angry with him for not bringing Oli and the author to action in recent days.

The Gen-G generation is adamant on the demand that the directly elected system should be adopted anyway since the formation of this government was done outside the constitution, and since the current government did not even have a general discussion on the matter, it seems that it is focusing on conducting elections again like in the past (2074 and 2079) and fulfilling its responsibilities.

Breaking the constitution when he was appointed but now not wanting to go left or right from the constitution and moving forward by adopting the old system means that the same old political party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal are sitting in the chair of the prime minister in turn. If this happens, it does not seem to be able to confirm the movement of Jen-G in any other sense than that the election to be held in 2084 has been moved forward by two years. The sacrifice of nearly 75 young people and the screams of hundreds of injured people cannot easily accept it. Therefore, Mr. Prime Minister, let's start looking for a solution to the problem, not right and left.
