Suffering upon suffering for the people

The Narayangarh-Butwal section has not been able to operate smoothly for years due to the greed of the commission, the extension of the contract period by the relevant government agencies, the negligence of the contractor, and the delay.

Amidst the tragic situation in which 74 people lost their lives during the Gen-G movement, the prolonged monsoon rains have added another layer of suffering to the common people in Badadasain.

Especially the passengers who depend on road transport are stranded in the middle of the road due to landslides on the highways. Even though the monsoon rains have damaged more than a dozen roads, people traveling in crowded vehicles are forced to bear the brunt of the landslides in Downe and Muglin-Narayangadh areas under the East-West Highway.

The Narayangarh-Butwal section has not been able to operate smoothly for years due to the greed of the commission, the related government agencies keep extending the contract period every year, the contractor's negligence and delay. On top of that, the steep terrain of the valley is creating more problems.

On the one hand, the daily life of millions of people has become difficult due to the poor running of the road through which citizens travel from most parts of the country. On the other hand, Nepal's infamy has increased worldwide as foreign tourists are harassed due to the bad condition of the road. Since

, the Muglin-Narayangadh road section, which has been prone to landslides in rainy and dry seasons, has never been reliable. Lately, passengers on both sides have been stranded due to the stones and mud that have been constantly falling into the Tuin river and are being piled up on the road.

In the past 36 years, everyone is forced to vomit poison on the previous governments that could not make an alternative way. In other words, as much as the cost of building the said road, so far the problem has not been 19 out of 20, even though the amount spent for maintenance is twenty times that.

The rulers and planners have been filling their coffers with the commission received from the repairs by building a paved road at the bottom of the flowing river and following the bad idea that the stones will not fall. Words cannot express the mental anguish caused by the plight of the highway to the common people who have flown in from abroad. Due to the untimely death of the youth, the increase in air fares, and the bad condition of the roads, many have added to the misery of reaching home this year. – Bhuvaneshwar Sharma, Chandragiri-2, Kathmandu
