Although the government of Nepal has banned domestic workers from going abroad, it has not stopped the process of women going to different countries through illegal routes.
Although the government of Nepal has banned domestic workers from going abroad, it has not stopped the process of women going to different countries through illegal routes. Government studies have shown that this has further increased their exploitation and fraud. According to the conclusion of a high-level committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the social security and rescue process has become complicated when female domestic workers go to the destination country. Irony! Exploitation and fraud have increased when the government has stopped. The government should take full responsibility for the illegal migration of women abroad. It is also a result of the government's policy failure. According to the
report, more than 9 lakh Nepalese women have gone to India and the Gulf countries as domestic workers using visas, of which a large number have gone through illegal routes. More than 15,000 domestic workers have been rescued from Kuwait alone in the last five years. People involved in human trafficking are taking unfair advantage from the workers, due to which the workers who are going through physical, mental and psychological problems are leading to suicide.
The government should take immediate concrete steps to solve this problem. Women should be created suitable employment opportunities in the country and the compulsion to go abroad should be removed, for which it is necessary to increase the investment in the development of small and medium industries, modernization of agriculture and technical education.
Strict laws and regulations should be made to ensure women's safety, bilateral labor agreements should be made more effective and visa procedures should be made transparent if women must go abroad for employment. Strict action should be taken against human traffickers who send women abroad by stealth, the government should increase surveillance at the border and break the net of illegal agents.
