Nature's cry of compassion

Although there has been no heavy rain in Rasuwagadhi-Kerung area in the Nepal-China border area for the past few days, there has been a huge loss of life in Rasuwa due to the severe flood of Lhende river that flowed from Tibet on Tuesday morning.

In fact, even though the incidence of floods is increasing across the country, no concrete program has been made by the government to reduce the far-reaching effects. When the disaster reaches its peak, the responsible government officials consider their achievement in giving instructions to their subordinates. It is well known to everyone that the uncontrollable extraction of sand and gravel of Sunkoshi has caused havoc, and the crushing terror along the Roshi river which has been destroyed by floods has made the unique beauty of this place ugly. We are forced to suffer this result without being sensitive to things like saving river channels, reducing the incidence of floods and maintaining natural beauty.

Climate change is increasing the risk of avalanches and sudden floods at present, Nepal must show a clear policy and investment in the implementation of the Sendai Framework (2015-2030). Technical, scientific and diplomatic cooperation in Nepal-China transboundary water management has become necessary. A long-term risk reduction program should be started immediately in Karnali, Madhesh and other high-risk areas.

Rasuwagadhi flood is not just an incident, it is nature's cry of compassion to re-warn the government. If lessons are not learned from the earthquake of 2072, the Terai flood of 2074 and other such tragedies, the upcoming floods and landslides of Barkhayam will become even more catastrophic. Now is the time to decide whether the government will stay silent or wake up. Not only to wipe the tears of the victims, but also to give a safe future to the next generation, the government must immediately take responsibility.
