An open letter to the Minister of Health

1. Some of the most unfairly treated in the health sector in this country are the nurses, who work round the clock and never feel happy.

2.    There is already a shortage of nurses in our country's hospitals. Nurses also continue to go to the US, UK and Australia.
3.    In this way, in the next 5 to 7 years, we are sure to face an acute shortage of nurses in hospitals. On the one hand, if the process of opening new hospitals continues, the number of patients in the hospital will increase and the number of nurses will decrease, this problem will surely take a serious form.
4.    At that time, the Nepalese government will have to pay a lot of money to bring foreign nurses into Nepal. Is it a good situation to encourage your nurses to go out without providing facilities and to import expensive nurses from abroad?
5.    Do you know - how much is the salary of a nurse who works in hospitals other than government hospitals in this country? It is far below the pay of the lowest level non-gazetted employee in your government office. And, what motivation might they be acting on?
6.    OPD, Ward, OT, Front Desk, Wellness, Pathology, Radiology, where do nurses not work? If we calculate their duty hours, it will be double the work time of government employees. No provision of a place to work, no salary enough to eat two meals a day, no extra facilities, no what?
7.    Can't your ministry decide to make the minimum salary of nurses working in all hospitals in Nepal the same as government hospitals? Are you afraid of private hospitals? Nurses have high expectations from a health minister like you.
8.    The family of the victim will go to a private hospital for treatment. There is no injustice in charging them a little more. That extra money could be spent on the salaries and professional development of nurses and giving them justice. You don't have to keep reminding the educated minister of health?
9.    Even if this is done, the number of nurses going abroad will surely be reduced and the availability of minimum correct wages in our hospitals will encourage them to serve here.
10.    Doctors and nurses should work as a team. In terms of salary, if a week's lunch expenses of an expert doctor is more than a nurse's salary in a month, don't nurses have a sense of indifference? And how can you imagine the best service from them?
