Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality-4, Chautara, Siudibar, Gorkha is also my birthplace. Where the soil and air raised me. I am now haunted by the tragic events that took place there.
Bal Bahadur Vick also lost his life due to the same negligence before he could not forget the wound of the tragic death due to electrocution in Khunte Surkheti a few months ago. This is not a coincidence, it is the result of Ncell's haphazard high tension line and Nepal Electricity Authority's criminal silence. This is not negligence, but an attack on the entire community. There can be no delay in raising voice against this injustice and taking stern action against the culprits.
Ncell, a multinational company, has laid high-tension towers and wires over village settlements without any regard for the lives of the locals. Making a mockery of safety standards, the local geography and risk to lives are completely ignored. How can this be justified? Even more reprehensible is the role of the Electricity Authority. Exposed wires, unsafe structures and lack of regular inspection all show the irresponsibility of the authority. This irresponsible nexus of Ncell and the authorities has made the lives of our villagers miserable. This tragedy in Chautara, Siudibar is a dangerous reality of unsafe electrical structures across the country. How many innocent people should die? How many families should be disturbed? This question should bother the government, local administration and related agencies. The death of Khunte Surkheti and Bal Bahadur Wik is not limited to numbers, it is a shock to our collective consciousness. Now the rural municipality should immediately form an independent investigation committee and identify the culprits. The responsible officials of Ncell and Electricity Authority should be brought to justice and strict punishment should be ensured.
