I was saddened to read the news published in Kantipur titled 'Neglect of policies and programs, MPs appearing and walking'. As in the past, it was also sad to see that our MPs have not improved their habit of showing up.
Such a trend is the height of shamelessness. Will the government adopt the policies and programs adopted by the people throughout the year? After the policy and program made by the government was presented by the President on May 19th, since about one week from May 22nd, time has been set aside for discussion, what message does it give if the parliamentarians are not concentrating on the parliament even at that time? What kind of shame is the common voter having to see the empty chairs on the pages of the newspaper and on the television screen? Have our MPs ever self-examined about this?
Isn't good governance in democracy to be self-governing and participate in governance? A good governance mechanism has been built under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, but shouldn't the eyes of this mechanism be directed towards this direction? People's representatives are not the owners of the people, they are public servants who get their salaries from the taxes paid by the people, but do MPs understand their position? If parliamentarians value public opinion, shouldn't business within parliament be prioritized? Isn't their main job to make laws?
Aren't they the same parliamentarians who made the law of double attendance in the morning and evening with office hours in the personnel administration system? And the provision of keeping records of attendance in and out of parliament? Shouldn't parliamentarians be a model of accountability and transparency? The government's policies and programs are important documents of the state that have a direct impact on the people's daily lives, which should address the budget allocation for the coming year and the aspirations of the people.
