Nepal's education sector is in serious crisis today. The games played by the state on the future of students in various names over the years have now exceeded the limit. Class 12 exam remains uncertain. Millions of students are confused. The youth who are trying to open the doors of higher education are now trapped in the maze of inaction of the state.

This is not just a batch problem. It is an attack on the dreams, struggles and possibilities of generations. Exam postponement or uncertainty cannot be an option. The student's future can neither be an object of the power equation, nor a laboratory for the interests of the leaders.

Our state never considered education as the first priority. Education is in leaders' speeches, not in budgets. In their eyes, education is just a 'vote-gathering tool' - where on the one hand teachers are used as activists, on the other hand schools and universities are turned into branches of the party. Politics is mixed in teacher transfer, promotion, appointment, training.

As recommended by UNESCO, when will we fulfill the recognition that 6 percent of GDP should be invested in education? To become a view tower for instant popularity for years but the basic aspects like teachers' salaries, textbooks, psychological counseling of students remain neglected? This is no longer acceptable.

Now is the time to rise above the politics of profit and loss and speak for education and students. Arrangements for online, regional or other alternative examinations for students should be made immediately. In the long term, direct participation of students, teachers and academics in education policy making should be ensured.

is not a private club of Ministry of Education leaders. Teachers' Service Commission is not the agenda of leaders' room meetings. They should be autonomous, accountable. The entire nation should create public pressure to strengthen the education policy.

There are no more days of gossip, nor the right to remain silent. The time has come to demand an account of the injustice done to the students. If you want to save the future of tomorrow, you have to wake up today. Playing with students' futures is no longer acceptable.
