The year 2081 came with many colors, flavors and messages for the Nepalese society. Some events were filled with hope and inspiration, while others left behind deep pain and anger.
The country's leadership still revolves around political chairs. Even though KP Sharma Oli became the Prime Minister again, the country had to experience more drama than stability. The debate between monarchy and republic heated up again, but the people's priorities were jobs, education and justice.
Kulman Ghising's sacking caused a serious blow to public trust. The transfer of an honest police officer investigating the Bhutanese refugee scam, Durga Prasai's show of strength and legal questions raised against Ravi Lamichhane made the gap between power and justice even more apparent. Innocent passengers lost in Trishuli, solar plane crash, death of Nepali student in hostel in India, all these raised deep questions about our system. There was a clash in Tinkune, the teachers' movement is now like a permanent message.
But there were also glimmers of hope. With the historic pride of Nepal playing in the Twenty20 World Cup for the first time, the new excitement brought in by cricket tournaments like the NPL has been remarkable. The debate on Sandeep Lamichhane reflected the divided mentality of our society, while topics like Durgesh Thapa's song, movie 'Poorna Bahadur Ko Sarangi' and Elina Chauhan's marriage-divorce garnered widespread discussion on social media. Balen Shah's activities also sometimes created support and sometimes controversy. The
environmental challenge was no less. Floods in June, July and October, fires, air pollution all point to our lack of infrastructure and awareness. Kamirita Sherpa set a unique record by climbing Mt. Everest for the 30th time, while infrastructure like Nagadhunga and Siddhababa tunnels brought hope even if only a little.
In the context of all these events, 2082 should now be made not just a new calendar, but the beginning of a new consciousness. Now is the time to abandon the fascination of old faces and instincts and take the path of conscience. In every corner of the country, the budding seeds of moral education are begging for water. May this year be the year to quench that thirst. An environment should be created for the youth to return to their country, the skills of the youth should be used in the country, and humanity should be learned through education. Let's not just criticize, but be companions of the solution. May 2082 be a year of wisdom, courage and dedication for all of us.
