After about 9 months of tug-of-war, the Oli-led government has finally removed the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising. Deepak Khadka had been against Kulman since a few months after taking charge of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.
Even though there was no reason to ask Ghising for an explanation, Minister Khadka asked for an explanation 6/6 times. In response to the clarification asked by the ministry, Ghising sent a reply saying that there was no way that he should be dismissed, and then Minister Khadka became angry.
What is sad and incomprehensible is why the person who was reappointed by the Congress-led government was removed with so much grief when he was a Congress talukdar minister? On what basis did Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who gave re-appointment, support this work of the minister? In the meantime, nothing has been seen to indicate that Ghising has committed any criminal act or caused loss to the authority.
The steps taken by the government to remove Ghising will be right if he realizes that it is equivalent to throwing an ax at his own feet. There has been widespread opposition to this move by the government.
There is little opposition to such a reprehensible act as the removal of a patriotic employee. The minister who is himself accused of misappropriating the land of Nepal Scout, a part of the government, how appropriate would it be for such a person to dismiss a person who is approved by the public with false accusations? The result will definitely not be good.
