About three months ago, you formed a selection committee for the appointment of the vacant Vice-Chancellor of KU from the Kathmandu University Assembly chaired by you.
The committee was given the autonomy to set its own procedure and the persons trusted by the assembly were made the coordinators and members of the committee.
but sorry! Instead of recommending to you the names of the three persons in the merit list prepared according to the procedure, the members of the committee advocated their own candidates and failed to carry out the responsibility assigned to them.
On your initiative, a KU assembly has been called to discuss the same issue on Monday 4th of Chait. So I would like to make some suggestions. Make the selection committee responsible for the misbehavior shown by the committee which directly affects the functioning of the university and punish them accordingly. At least ask for an explanation.
The current committee should be disbanded, don't even dare to form another committee and move forward. This is likely to tarnish the image of the Chancellor himself and the University.
Let's recognize the process completed a month before today by the committee, which includes Sureshraj Sharma, the future vice-chancellor of Nepal University, Arjun Karki, and Janardan Nepal, the former secretary of the government of Nepal.
If this is not done, it will be unfair to the 10 candidates who were qualified in the first selection and will hurt the emotional feelings of the three people who were shortlisted based on the process. If this process is left alone, it will sow the seeds of discord within the university and the university will continue to collapse.
Therefore, before the meeting that is supposed to be held now, the evaluation documents made by the committee must be obtained and the same document should be presented to the meeting and the discussion should be carried forward. On the basis of the same document, decide who is in the list of three eligible to be the vice-chancellor. And, among those three, declare the professor who is number one within the authority of the chancellor as the new vice chancellor of KU in the same meeting.
This will not only destroy the negative rumors spread in the market circle, but will also ensure the future of KU through the impartial initiative of the Chancellor.
